Aaron Ho

I am a Research Scientist in the Plasma Science and Fusion Center at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, currently developing machine learning models for tokamak fusion plasma simulation. I specialize in generating surrogate models to replace computationally expensive physics-based codes for integrated modeling of fusion plasmas. My research aims to enable faster scenario optimization and control applications while maintaining physics accuracy. I've worked extensively with the QuaLiKiz and JINTRAC codes, achieving 3-5 orders of magnitude speedup through careful neural network design and training methodologies. Recently, I've been exploring active learning and uncertainty quantification techniques to improve the data efficiency and robustness of these surrogate models. My work has contributed to the successful prediction of fusion power in JET's deuterium-tritium experiments, demonstrating the potential of ML-accelerated modeling for future fusion devices such as SPARC and ITER.
